Betting on a Luger clone?

An aquantance of mine swears he just bought a WWII vintage German Luger chambered in .22 LR for $90. I haven't seen it yet but I'm betting he's incorrect by claiming it's a genuine Luger.

I know that Luger never made a .22 LR, but Erma and Stoeger both made clones chambered in .22 LR, Erma also made a .22 LR conversion kit for the German Lugers.

Aside from the name that is stamped on the handgun how can you tell the difference between a genuine Luger .22 LR conversion and the Erma or Stoeger clones?

Just the fact that he bought it for $90 has me thinking it's a worn out clone.
Actually you were right about one thing, the Erma conversion kits were originally made for the German army with the intent of using them for training. Then they sold the kits after WWII to the general public. For more clarification where are the proof marks and other identification marks located on a genuine Luger?

You are correct, Luger never made a .22LR version of the P-08 Luger. What was made was a conversion kit that consisted of a barrel insert, toggle, a light breech lock and magazine and was made by Ermawerke Company of Erfurt in 1927 and was pressed into service for small rage practice. The barrel insert was 7.7 in. long and protruded out the original barrel.
