hello all how can i tell if my starfish is a bottom feeder?

my son found a starfish ( beaded starfish and we brought it home to put in a salt tank that was left in the home ( i know nothing about caring for it or the star but want to learn ) i need to know if its a bottom feed or if i need to buy food. now the star mostly lays on its back but at times walks around? i cant find anything about this one kind of star and now i have all of a sudden these shrimp, little worms, and i think 2 brittle stars ( i hope the stars dont fight)

The easiest way to find out if he eats meat, algae, or plankton like food is to try and target feed him. Simply take a piece of frozen krill (costs about 5 dollars per package) and place a piece under one of his arms. As for starfish fighting unless this guy feeds on them I think youll be fine, only heard of one 3 foot star eatting others anyway. I searched your guy out on the web and he looks like hes built to pry open clams more then scavange like the brittle stars. So give target feeding a try and see what happens.
