How do I differentiate obsidian and onyx beads/chips?

Is there any test that I can do to tell if the black mineral chips i have for jewelry making are obsidian or onyx? Or any easy way to tell the difference? Thank you!

There appears to be differences in both specific gravity and hardness. No having any gemological knowledge, I'm not sure how to measure these and the sites I perused don't give much info. I did, however, find this lady who seems to know her stuff...maybe she can help you:
